Spills & Stains

Luxury handcrafted rug/carpet by Elegant Textures Auckland

Prompt action gives you the best chance of successful stain removal.

Do

  • Attend to spills immediately.
  • Scoop up solid spills carefully using a spoon or blunt knife.
  • Blot liquids gently using clean white paper towels or a white cloth.
  • Work from the outside of the spill towards the centre.
  • Repeat with clean towels until no more moisture transfers.

Don't

  • Never rub or scrub the affected area.
  • Avoid coloured cloths that may transfer dye.
  • Do not oversaturate the carpet or rug.
  • Avoid bleach, harsh chemicals or household detergents.
  • Do not use steam cleaners unless specifically recommended by a professional.

Wool Care

Premium wool is naturally resilient, durable and resistant to soiling.

  • Vacuum regularly.
  • Initial Shedding is normal and will reduce with vaccuming.
  • Treat spills immediately.
  • Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight where possible.
  • Schedule professional cleaning every 12–24 months depending on usage.

Wool naturally repels many liquid spills, giving you valuable time to remove them before permanent staining occurs.

Sisal Care

Sisal is a beautiful natural fibre that performs best when kept dry.

  • Vacuum regularly using suction only.
  • Blot spills immediately.
  • Avoid excessive moisture.
  • Never soak or shampoo sisal.
  • Clean dry soils promptly before they become embedded.

Professional cleaning is recommended for significant staining.

Professional Cleaning

Even with regular maintenance, vacuuming and prompt attention to spills, periodic professional cleaning helps preserve the appearance, softness and longevity of your Elegant Textures rug or carpet.

Always use an experienced professional cleaner who is familiar with premium natural and luxury fibres. Before any cleaning begins, identify the fibre type of your flooring, as each material requires a different cleaning method.

If you are unsure which fibre your rug or carpet is made from, please contact the Elegant Textures team. We’ll be happy to help identify your product and recommend the most appropriate cleaning method.

Recommended Cleaning Methods

Wool

Premium wool rugs and carpets can generally be professionally cleaned using hot water extraction (commonly known as steam extraction), provided the process is carried out by an experienced carpet cleaning specialist using appropriate equipment and approved cleaning solutions.

Silk

Silk is a delicate natural fibre that requires specialist care.

Professional cold water extraction or other low-moisture cleaning methods may be suitable, depending on the condition of the rug. Harsh chemicals, excessive moisture and high temperatures should always be avoided.

Cleaning should only be carried out by professionals experienced in cleaning silk floor coverings.

TENCEL™

TENCEL™ offers a beautiful silk-like appearance but requires careful maintenance.

Professional cold water extraction or approved low-moisture cleaning methods may be used by experienced specialists. The entire rug or carpet should be cleaned rather than treating isolated areas to help maintain a consistent appearance.

Viscose

Viscose is a luxurious fibre with a soft lustre but is particularly sensitive to moisture.

Professional cleaning should only be undertaken by specialists experienced with viscose rugs and carpets. Low-moisture cleaning methods are generally preferred, and excessive water should always be avoided to minimise the risk of pile distortion or water marking.

Sisal

Sisal should always be kept as dry as possible.

Professional dry cleaning methods designed specifically for natural plant fibres are recommended. Excessive moisture, shampooing or wet extraction should be avoided as they may damage the natural fibres.

Cleaning Methods to Avoid

To help protect your Elegant Textures flooring, we do not recommend the following cleaning methods unless specifically advised by a qualified specialist for your particular fibre type:

  • Bonnet cleaning
  • Excessive steam cleaning
  • DIY carpet shampoo machines
  • Harsh alkaline or bleach-based cleaning products
  • Over-wetting or soaking the flooring

Using unsuitable cleaning methods may affect the appearance, texture and performance of your rug or carpet.
